Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of French bread, slightly stale preferred
- 1 tablespoon of melted butter
- 4 eggs
- 1/3 cup of sugar
- 1/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 cup of cream
- 1 cup of Redlands orange juice
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla
- 1 cup of chopped and toasted pecans
- 1/2 cup of dark or milk chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon of orange zest
Instructions:
Slice the French bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread the melted butter in a baking dish, I used a 8x12 stoneware dish, then add the bread cubes, and sprinkle with pecans and chocolate chips.
In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs, sugars, and orange zest. Add the milk, cream, orange juice, and vanilla. Mix well. Pour the mixture over the bread, ensuring each piece absorbs some of the liquid.
Bake covered with foil or an ovenproof lid at 350°F for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Allow the dish to cool for about 20 minutes. Serve the bread pudding warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. Refrigerate any leftovers.
